Former RCB player delivers massive take on Virat Kohli’s dismissal vs LSG in IPL 2026
Former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batter Mohammad Kaif reckons Virat Kohli had no answer to the sensational delivery from Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) pacer Prince Yadav that dismissed him for a two-ball duck. The two teams faced off in Match 50 of IPL 2026 on Thursday, May 7, at the Ekana Cricket Stadium.
Chasing 213 in 19 overs under the DLS method, RCB were rocked early when Prince produced a peach of a 140.4 kph nip-backer that uprooted Kohli’s off stump. RCB eventually fell short in the chase and lost the contest by nine runs.
Speaking on Star Sports after the match, Kaif called it a dream delivery. He noted that the ball initially shaped away before sharply jagging back in, adding that there was hardly anything Kohli could have done against a ball of that quality. He said:
“Keep watching that ball to Virat Kohli again and again. That was the kind of delivery every bowler dreams of producing. It shaped away initially, and the batter moved to play it on that line, but after pitching, the ball came back in sharply.

“With the swing, the ball jagged back in, and Virat Kohli himself was saying that he had gone to play the outswinger, but the ball came in after pitching, so what could he even do? Honestly, even Virat Kohli could not have done anything against that delivery. It was that good. An absolutely brilliant ball, and Virat Kohli got out for zero,” he added.
In the same discussion, Umesh Yadav said that Kohli’s wicket was crucial as he sets the tone of RCB’s innings and makes things easier for the batters coming in later. He said:
“Virat’s wicket was a massive wicket. The way Prince got him out was very important because Virat Kohli is the kind of player for RCB who sets the tone for the innings and takes the team forward. He makes things easier for the batters coming in later because he is a run-chase setter. He builds the momentum and then controls the chase.”
This marked Kohli’s first failure to score in the IPL since 2023, when he was dismissed for a golden duck against Rajasthan Royals (RR) by Trent Boult.
“He understands his variations well” — Umesh Yadav’s high praise for LSG seamer
In the same discussion, Umesh Yadav noted that LSG’s Prince Yadav has improved since last year, pointing out how he has mixed his slower balls with sharp short deliveries, something that sets him apart from others. He added that Prince understands his variations well and knows exactly which ball to bowl and when. Umesh said:
“Whether it’s the slower ball, the bouncer, or the yorker, he has made them much more precise. And I feel the way he uses his variations is very impressive. We’ve seen many bowlers use slower deliveries, but when they bowl bouncers, they often don’t bowl sharp, aggressive ones. A bouncer should be directed properly at the batter’s head area, and that’s something he does well, which makes him look a bit different from others. His yorkers are also very accurate. He understands his variations well and knows exactly which ball to bowl, when to bowl it, and which batter to target. That’s a very good quality to have.”
In 10 matches this season, the 24-year-old has picked up 16 wickets at an average of 18.68, a strike rate of 13.8, and an economy rate of 8.08, with best bowling figures of 3/32.
