IPL 2026 Final to be shifted out of Chinnaswamy Stadium amid MLA ticket row: Reports

The Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru might lose the rights to host the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 Final over the ongoing demands for a fixed quota of tickets for the Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to name the venues for the playoffs and the final soon as the tournament heads towards its business end.

The Chinnaswamy Stadium, the home venue of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), had earned the right to host the IPL 2026 Final as the team had won the title last year. While there were major uncertainties regarding the venue being in play in IPL 2026 at all, due to the infamous stampede in its premises during celebrations, the government of Karnataka provided the clearance at the last minute.

According to a report by ANI, the playoffs matches will be held in Mullanpur and Bengaluru as PBKS and RCB were the finalists last year. While the Chinnaswamy Stadium should technically host the final, the ongoing ticket row makes it difficult for the BCCI to award it the rights.

“IPL 2026 playoffs and final venue will be announced soon. Matches likely to be divided into Punjab and Karnataka, last time winner should host the final, but MLA ticket issue is creating problems in Bengaluru, and if there is no solution, then bcci will move the final to another city,” a BCCI source told ANI.

Ahead of the IPL 2026 season opener held at the Chinnaswamy Stadium against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Congress MLA Vijayanand Kashappanavar urged the provision of at least five match tickets for every MLA, because it is not feasible for them to purchase tickets like a common man, and they deserve VIP treatment.

M Chinnaswamy Stadium last hosted the IPL Final in 2016

The iconic venue has hosted the IPL Final twice in its history, in 2014 and 2016. Although the Mumbai Indians (MI) had won the 2013 and 2015 edition, the IPL 2014 and 2016 finals were not held at the Wankhede Stadium. In 2016, a drought struck Maharashtra over the course of the summer, leading to a switch in the venue.

The Chinnaswamy Stadium hosted two thrilling finals in 2014 and 2016, where the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) won, respectively.
