RCB batter cops heavy fine for showing an offensive gesture during win over MI in IPL 2026: Reports
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batter Tim David has been fined 30 percent of his match fees and handed two demerit points for showing an offensive gesture during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 match against the Mumbai Indians (MI). A clip of the Australian showcasing the gesture in question went viral on social media after the defending champions’ last-ball win at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur, on Sunday, May 10.
Tim David did not have a memorable outing with the bat during the run chase, being dismissed for a golden off Corbin Bosch’s bowling in the 16th over. The death overs followed some intense nail-biting action, ultimately ending in the pair of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Rasikh Salam running two runs off the last ball to seal a thrilling two-wicket win.
The dressing room, following the significant win that takes them to the top of the table, erupted in joy, followed by some animated celebrations by players. Amid the chaos, Tim David dished out the obscene gesture, which was recorded on camera as well.

A report from the Times of India mentions:
“RCB’s batter Tim David has been booked under Article 2.6 (showing an offensive gesture) during @RCBTweets match vs @mipaltan yesterday at Raipur. He will be penalized 30% of his match fees and given 2 demerit points.”
RCB head coach Andy Flower was also fined 15 percent of his applicable match fee for ‘using an audible obscenity’ during an argument with the fourth official on the sidelines after a third umpire’s decision in the dying stages of the match.
Tim David was part of the MI setup from 2022 to 2024
The explosive batter was seen as the heir to Kieron Pollard as a finisher after being roped in by the five-time winners for ₹8.25 crore. His first season saw him score 186 runs in eight matches at a strike rate of 216.28.

While he went on to have two decent campaigns following that, he was released ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. MI did not place a single bid for him at the event, with RCB securing his services for ₹3 crore.
